Hori Smoku - Sailor Jerry premiere at the Philadelphia Film Festival

The prince theater was full to capacity with a rowdy and excited audience for the premiere of director/writer Erich Weiss's latest documentary. Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry: The Life and Times of Norman Keith Collins, explores the past, present and future of the global tattooing phenomenon. Using the life and myth of Sailor Jerry as a centerpiece, Weiss masterfully builds upon and examines the culture and history of the art of tattooing. Insightful and hilarious interviews with Ed Hardy, Philadelphia Eddie, and other tattoo luminaries serve to bring the often dark and mysterious tattoo world into focus. Archival footage from World War 2 era Hawaii and early America bring the story full circle. Whether you are up to your neck in tattoos or the thought of the needle causes you to faint, this film certain to keep you attention, and will cause you to think twice about the art and the tradition behind the permanent statement that once was only for sailors, criminals and servicemen.
