Steve"ESPO" Powers on Megawords Radio

Our long time homie and Philly native Steve Powers came through this week for an Orangeboom fueled set ( we polished off a whole case of pounders!?!?) Many Guided by Voices drinking anthems were played and much informative commentary was offered between songs (rare on our show) from the personality that IS Espo. We would like to thank him and we hope he comes back real soon.Peace to all!!

BOMBSHELL - The Life and Crimes of Claw Money book release party

I finally managed to get photos downloaded from my camera today! Sorry, not enough people photos! The first photo is from the book release party at the Liberace Mansion in Las Vegas last Wednesday, and the second is the beautiful lobby at the Venetian hotel. Good times were had by all, but everyone was a bit upset that the party had to end at midnight. I promise more from the New York and Paris release parties.

Tookie Sherman on Megawords Radio!

Our world traveling friend Tookie Sherman formerly of Need New Body visited our studio this week with his crew. Former band mates, old favorites and new recruits backed him up on 10 or so live #'s, in addition, Tookie started the night with a great DJ set, letting us hear some of his recent berlin recordings as well as his current faves. Listen this week for Steve "espo' Powers bringing a set down the turnpike for us....thurs. 8-10pm est.-www.radiovolta.org-PEACE!

Public Wall Writing in Philadelphia book release

This past Wednesday evening we celebrated the release of PWWIP and Megawords Magazine issue 6 at the Fleisher Ollman Gallery. We were a bit worried about snow, but the skies cooperated nicely and the halls of the gallery were at full capapcity. Thanks to the director William Pym, we were given free range over the space, and we of course took full advantage.

The event was catered by Wadada foods, and beer was supplied by the generous Sam Schwartz of the Philadelphia independent. The installation of artist Isaac Lin Was invaded by DJ Nag Champa who provided the sound for the night. As for Megawords, we presented a slide show of the images in the book, created a small installation from one of our newsboxes that was struck by a car on Germantown Avenue (shown above), and of course had books for sale (being sold below by Megawords staff Zoe and Eliza)along with new issues of Megawords. We also showed the Jungle documentary and a short film about vandalism made in the 70's by ABC TV. But before you go, let's not forget the new Megawords Mix tape complete with choice selections from Megawords Radio.

We couldn't be more pleased with the way the event took place, and we've got to thank everyone who helped us make it happen (especially Ryan Collerd for the images on this page). The mix of crowds at the after party (hosted by Nicky $$) was great, conversation was intense and the drinks flowed freely. Next up for team Megawords: the New York release party ... stay tuned.
