Free News Projects

Free News Projects is an independent publisher of art and music, collaborating with an eclectic selection of musicians, illustrators, photographers and other artist including Steve Powers, Dalek, Judith Schaechter, Vampire Weekend, Maysles Films, Jim Houser, Matt Leines, Plastic Little, Space 1026, Jeremy Fish, and Man Man. Free News Projects prides itself on collaborating closely with artists to produce high-quality limited edition works with refined design.

Free News Projects hired Smyrski Creative to develop the company's brand identity and style guide. Because Free News Projects works with such a wide variety of artists, it was important to develop an identity system that was instantly recognizable and yet subtle enough not to interfere with the artists' own work.

Smyrski Creative also developed an extensive website for Free News Projects that combined an online store with elements of a cultural resource hub for customers. At the Free News Projects site, customers can find information about the publisher's roster of artists, explore their works, sample their music, as well as purchase books, prints, and full-length albums.

The website's backend was built with ease of use and organization in mind. Free News Projects employees can easily add content to the website. The inventory of the store is also tracked automatically, with fulfillment seamlessly integrated with United States Postal Service and Federal Express to allow for quick tracking and shipping of orders.

Smyrski Creative also works as a producer with the artists and musicians on Free News Projects' roster. We help them find the best paper choices, print vendors, sound technicians and distribution methods for their works. By empowering artists to produce and circulate professionally-designed work, Free News hopes to establish a new paradigm for how art reaches the public.
