Mattathias Schwartz

Mattathias Schwartz has written for some of the most prestigious publications in the world including the New York Times magazine, the Wall Street Journal, Harpers, Wired and Business Week. His site needed to be a sharp tool forged with one purpose in mind - the efficient delivery of information. From a usability perspective, the site would have to present his work in an easy to read format suitable for long reading sessions  and Matt would have to be able to organize and update the site easily. A clearly organized and minimally designed site built on WordPress seemed to be the best choice.

The are four sections to the site - Articles, Experiments, Blog and Contact. In the Articles section Matt posts stories he has written for large mass-market publications (think Harpers, the New York Times, etc.). In experiments he posts free-form or personal writing. The blog section is reserved for announcements, images and general thoughts, and the contact page is a simple link to Matt's email.

The site's appearance is straightforward, and we hope users don't notice the design too much. We spent a lot of time working on finer typographic details. Getting the line spacing and type size just right was key to the project success. We used subtle rollovers to entice readers to click into stories and also to help reinforce the sites information architecture. We really wanted people to be able to easily read, and focus in on the stories that Matt tells.
