Megawords at the ICA

We usually work in "non-traditional" spaces like abandoned newsstands, empty lots and old storefronts, so when Kate Kraczon asked us to be a part of One is the Loneliest Number, we saw it as a chance to do something different. Because our work is often concerned with boundaries set up by governments, institutions and society, a show at the ICA - one of the contemporary art world's best known museums - would present an interesting challenge. How could we continue having an open, two-way dialogue with as many people as possible, and how could we challenge existing ideas of what typically takes place in a museum?

After lots of thinking and a few on-site visits, we decided to make the focus of our show the mezzanine and employee kitchen, instead of one of the galleries. By taking the installation out of the gallery and activating the mezzanine and kitchen in a new way, we would reposition how the Megawords project might be seen in an art context, and discover how we could use the museum space to achieve our broader goals.
